As fiber networks evolve broadband installers are faced with a larger number of potential equipment options. There are several types of fiber networks including point-to-point (P2P), active and passive, all with different requirements. So, when it comes to outside plant installations (OSP) they need a full range of enclosures that are flexible, durable and weatherproof.
The ideal enclosures are made from rugged flame-retardant PVC or high temperature polycarbonate. These materials are easily molded into high impact, weatherproof and dustproof designs that are resilient and strong enough to be secured with locking mechanisms.
There are several types of enclosures available, and, along with them are a variety of different models to choose from. How to decide on the right combination? It all depends on how many fibers are being terminated and the size of the enclosure needed.
TRANSITION TERMINAL
The P126FTT Fiber Transition Terminal is a compact 5”x4”x3” enclosure that allows the construction/splice crew to connect fiber during initial deployment without needing to return to the site, saving time and money. Service calls are simplified by using pre-connectorized fiber and removable 1” ports that eliminate the need to disconnect fiber before splicing.
DEMARCATION TERMINAL
The P250FCC is a compact enclosure that can serve as a transition point for outside plant applications. It can be placed on a pole or the side of a house with special mounting brackets that make installation a breeze. It can accommodate two fiber fusion splices, two connectors/simplex adapters and two fiber transition points.
The inside is easily accessed for repair and maintenance through a 180 degree hinged lid with a snap lock that eliminates the need to remove and replace the lid. A service technician has 24/7 secure access with the available override, hex or screw type locking mechanism.
FIBER CROSS CONNECT 1-6
The P500FCC and the larger P750CC are versatile enclosures that are designed to terminate up to six fibers outside or inside single-family units and businesses. The P500FCC measures 7”x5.5”x 3” and the P750CC measures 9”x6”x 3”. They can also be used as a repair box when splicing existing fiber runs. Harsh weather and extreme environments are no match with available watertight standards compliance. The internal mounting hole pattern allows greater flexibility of equipment placement and 1” ports eliminate the need to disconnect fiber before splicing.
For service and maintenance, both boxes feature a 180 degree hinged lid that can be secured with the optional override or F81 locking mechanism. Installation costs are lowered by having preinstalled SC connectors, splice clip, cable clamps and strain relief mount.
FIBER CROSS CONNECT 1-12
Need the capability of accommodating active and passive components? The P1000FCC allows maximum flexibility and use of space within a compact 10.25”x 8.75”x 4.25” design. Many features are the same as the P500FCC and P750FCC including watertight standards compliance, 180 degree lid with available override or locking mechanism and wall or pole mounting brackets.
The P1000FCC can be preconfigured to terminate up to 12 fibers and expansion is simple with two removable 1” ports and additional ¾” knockouts. It comes complete with pre-installed SC connectors, retractable splice trays, fiber spools, cable clamps, brackets and strain relief mount.
FIBER CROSS CONNECT 1-24 / RFOG ENCLOSURE
The P1500FCC shares the same features as the P1000FCC but with dimensions of 14”x 10” x 3.5”. It will also terminate up to 24 fibers and has three removable 1” entry/exit ports.
HIGH DENSITY MULTI PLAY FTTP, FTTH, TELECOM AND CABLE TV
For installations that require even more room for additional equipment, active or passive, look for a multi-purpose enclosure like the P2000FCC. It measures 20” x 14” x 5.5” that can terminate up to 48 fibers. This watertight enclosure has a large inner cavity that provides lots of room to work in and the lockable 180 degree lid makes access to components easy. When to use? It’s ideal for wall mounting and can be used for FTTP, FTTH, Telecom and cable TV. Expansion is easy with six 1” entry/exit ports and available four 1” knockouts.
